SNOW SEEKER
Remote Snow depth readings
with site temperature
VMR Ultrasonic ranging systems also include solid or
liquid level measurements in silos, tanks or wood-chip bins. Systems
can be modified for use on mobile robotic platforms.
Mounted on top of a remote mountain is a radio attached
to a VMR SnowSeeker. Using DTMF tones, an operator can interrogate
the SnowSeeker to gauge snow depth and receive a DTMF tone reading
indicating snow depth and environmental temperature. The system
uses a computer with software developed by VMR and the data is
stored in a file with the site number and date and time interrogated. This file is converted
to Excel, which can be graphed or viewed through Excel software.
The accuracy of the level sensor is one centimeter
or 1/4 inch. The range of the sensor is .2 of a meter or
12 inches to 15 meters or 30 feet. The accuracy of the temperature
is plus or minus .5 degree.
